HEARTS TO HONEYBOURNE

CHARITY CYCLE RIDE
SUNDAY 21st JUNE 2015
2PM – MARKET PLACE EVESHAM

Cycle Evesham Vale and Evesham Vale Cardiac Rehab joined forces on Sunday for a glorious ride to Honeybourne and back. Billed as the monthly scenic social ride now being organised by Cycle Evesham Vale, the ride was also an opportunity to raise funds, through registration fees and sponsorship, for Evesham Vale Cardiac Rehab. It also formed part of National Bike Week.

Fourteen riders, of mixed ages and abilities, undertook the ride. It was a glorious route, mainly on quiet roads, taking in tea and cakes at All Things Wild in Honeybourne, and then a well earned drink at The Bridge in Offenham before the long hill back into Evesham. Perfect weather, great company, and a very well organised ride, which will have raised much needed funds for Cardiac Rehab and helped to raise awareness of the facilities this local charity provides.

For one rider there was a very good reason to take part. Carol Hall, President of Evesham Wheelers, and now a very keen cyclist, suffered a heart attack six years ago en route from Land’s End to John O’Groats. She found herself in hospital for five days. When she came home it was suggested that she would benefit from six weeks of cardiac rehab. She found it really helped restore her fitness and stopped her just sitting around and doing nothing. Carol has not let her heart attack worry her, she just gets on with life, and is always up for new challenges. In July that means a trip to France to climb Mont Ventoux – her biggest challenge yet. Her advice to anyone who has suffered a heart attack is get out and do all you can!
