In 2008, Evesham Market Town Partnership helped to fund a pilot project aimed at making Cardiac Rehabilitation more accessible to people in Evesham and The Vale, and beyond.
In discussions with Worcs. PCT, it was agreed that if the partnership could locate suitable premises, then the appropriate medical support would be provided. (This support was forthcoming from Worcs. Acute Trust, whose specialist staff deliver Phase 3 cardiac rehab classes.)
Evesham Rowing Club kindly allowed the pilot project to proceed by providing free accommodation . So, in May 2009, the Evesham Cardiac Rehab facility was launched as a pilot project. It started slowly, but soon the classes were busy with referrals from cardiologists and GPs. Demand for Phase 4 classes soon became too large for the rowing club accommodation, and Phase 3 classes soon reached capacity.
Because of the demand and the accommodation limitations, it was decided to relocate the Evesham Vale Cardiac Rehab facility to Evesham Leisure Centre, where larger class sizes could be accommodated. This move has meant that the Cardiac Rehab classes can no longer enjoy free accommodation. Even though Evesham Leisure Centre is providing discounted hire costs, they are costs which are new to us.
"Evesham Vale Cardiac Rehab" has therefore been established, with a Board of Trustees, in order to raise funds which will pay annual room hire costs, and promote Cardiac Rehabilitation.
